[ARCHIVED] Hampton police to apply for federal grant funds to support technology upgrades

Aug. 1, 2018 - The City of Hampton is eligible to apply for the 2018 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program Local Solicitation.  The grant is an annual grant awarded by the federal government based upon a locality’s population and crime statistics.  These funds allow each designated locality to support law enforcement operation needs related to criminal justice activities in the form of additional equipment, supplies, training, and more.
The FY2018 allocation for the City of Hampton is $49,340.  The intended use of these funds by the Hampton Police Division is to:

  • Procure forensic evidence tables and crime scene canopy tents for the preservation and integrity of evidence ($12,169)
  • Procure an Utility Task Vehicle (UTV) for the Police Division Range to replace an aging golf cart utilized for moving systems and completing maintenance tasks at the police shooting range in furtherance of marksmanship skills of sworn officers ($10,000)
  • Procure optics scopes, helmet lights, and rapid application tourniquets for officer safety ($27,171)
