[ARCHIVED] Hampton History Museum starts Archaeology Club

Hampton, VA- Aspiring Indiana Joneses can get their hands dirty through the joy of discovery with a new Archaeology Club at the Hampton History Museum. The first meeting is Saturday, October 12, 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.

The club is geared toward two age groups: Junior Archaeologists for ages 8-12, and Senior Archaeologists for ages 13-16. Meeting on the 2nd Saturday of the month, the Archaeology Club will introduce children and young adults to the exciting field of archaeology. Led by archaeologist and museum educator and Sarah Heinsman, with the use of reproduction artifacts, simulations, field trips, and participation in real archaeological digs, club members will learn what archaeologists do on a regular basis and the great contributions archaeologists have made to the public’s understanding of history.


Planned activities include fieldtrips to Historic Jamestowne and Colonial Willamsburg, hands-on and computer simulations of different phases of archaeological excavations, visits from local archaeologists, and the analysis of reproduction artifacts.

Annual Archaeology Club dues are $10.00. Additional fees apply for field trips. The Museum’s 2nd Saturday Family Days follow meetings at its new time, 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
