[ARCHIVED] Celebrate downtown waterfront park at after-work party Oct. 2

River Park long

Sept. 18, 2019 - Tucked under the interstate on the Hampton River in the heart of downtown is one of Hampton's least-known parks. The city's parks department wants to reacquaint nearby residents with the park in an after-work event Oct. 2.

River Street Park, which opened in 1998, was largely conceived as a park for the downtown and Pasture Point neighborhoods, features benches and grassy areas, as well as brick walkways marked with key points of Hampton's history. It also features a kayak launch and dock.

The Oct. 2 event will run from 6 to 8 p.m. and include appetizers, fall-themed mocktails, games, yoga, mosaic steel drums and more.  The park, located at 530 River St., has very limited parking. For this free event, people can park in the City Hall parking lot and take a shuttle to River Park.
