The Hampton University Choir will celebrate 150 years of excellence through a weekend of events April 17-19 culminating in a public concert. All are welcome to sign up to sing in the concert or simply attend and enjoy the music.

The first group of Hampton Singers was composed of 17 students; four of whom were former slaves. The School of Liberal Arts and Education, the Music Department, and the Hampton University Choirs invite the public 150 years later to participate in this historic weekend of events:

  • Saturday, April 18 — Celebration Luncheon open to everyone $50 per person.
  • Sunday, April 19 — Celebration Concert open to everyone, $25 per person.

Those who are singing in the concert must purchase a ticket to participate in the choir. Tickets are available online at hamptonalumnievents.com or in person through the Office of Alumni Affairs. If you are planning to sing in the choir, please email Dr. Joan Wickham at Joan.Wickham@Hamptonu.edu by Jan. 31 with your voice part, name, address, telephone number, and email address.

The concert will feature renowned alumnus and former Choir Director Dr. Roland M. Carter. Rehearsals will be scheduled throughout the weekend and music will be provided when you arrive on campus.
