June 23, 2020 - Hampton is one of the top 10 cities in the country for home affordability, according to Realtor.com’s analysis. Across the country, buying the median priced home accounts for 29 percent of the national median income, while renting accounts for 25 percent. More than 80 percent of the 593 U.S. counties analyzed still favor renting over buying in the first quarter of 2020. However, in Hampton, buying the median priced home took 20 percent of the median monthly income, versus the median rental, which required 20 percent. Hampton was recently named a good market for house flippers, which means that many of the homes on the market may be dated and could use some remodeling. Hampton ranked No. 9 on the list, followed by Newport News at No. 10. Clayton, Ga., and Baltimore were numbers 1 and 2, respectively.
