[ARCHIVED] DriveNOW helps participants get training, start towards commercial drivers license

Workforce Hampton

July 16, 2020 - Workforce Hampton’s DriveNOW training program completed its pilot phase this month, with five people set to start on-the-job training for a Class B commercial drivers license and full-time work as a bus operator trainee with Hampton Roads Transit. Mayor Donnie Tuck and Vice Mayor Jimmy Gray recently attended a program-completion ceremony.

DriveNOW begins with job skills training, then provides the training necessary to earn a CDL license, start full-time work as a bus operator trainee, and more. Five people who joined the pilot program move on to their CDL permit testing, and could be hired by HRT later in July as trainees. Their new certifications and skills are expected to increase the local pool of commercial drivers not just for HRT but for the private sector in general. Go online to learn more about DriveNOW and how you can join the program.
