Virtual Port Hampton Lecture
Little Chicago: Phoebus in Photos
Facebook Live-Monday, March 1, 7 pm

Join author Tim Receveur of Phoebus Memories for this Facebook Live event exploring the lively and colorful story of the town of Phoebus, and that is now a vibrant and creative part of Hampton!

Phoebus has been called many things. Kecoughtan, Mill Creek, Elizabeth City, and Chesapeake City have been some of the official names on maps over the years. The unofficial ones have ranged greatly from “Little Chicago”, due to its connection with the Chesapeake and Ohio railroad and bootlegging during Prohibition, to the garden spot of Hampton, depending on the time period and the people you ask. This book pulls together hundreds of photos from Phoebus history, from the dawn of photography during the Civil War to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, to provide a glimpse of the people and places that made Phoebus what it is today.

Tim's book "Little Chicago: Phoebus in Photos" can be purchased in these Phoebus businesses:
Robert's Antiques
The Way We Were Bookshop
Honey House Boutique
Mallory Ritz
Proceeds support Phoebus businesses

After the talk airs on Facebook Live, it will later be found on the museum's website and YouTube playlist.
