[ARCHIVED] Enjoy perks and praise May 7-13 during Public Service Recognition Week

Public Service Week - Newsflash image

May 5, 2023 — In honor of Public Service Recognition Week, May 7-13, Hampton has planned multiple events throughout the week in appreciation of city employees' hard work. For more public service perks, businesses across the Hampton have stepped up and generously provided city workers with a variety of discounts during the week.

The Workplace Wellness Committee has organized a number of delightful distractions, including one free Coldstone Creamery ice cream to soothe your soul, available Monday-Wednesday. On Tuesday, visit the West Hampton Community Center to move your body and promote your physical well being with a night of Zumba dancing 6-7 p.m. Or if line dancing is more your groove, step in to the Northampton Community Center on Thursday from 6-7 p.m. Get details and the full list here.

Since 1985, the first week of May has been set aside as Public Service Recognition Week, a time to thank dedicated public servants from federal, state, and local governments across the country.

As part of this year's observance, city employees were asked to nominate an extraordinary co-worker who exemplifies public service in the city. To find out why those nominees say they serve Hampton, check out the presentation.

In addition, city employees are encouraged to show off their colors on Friday, May 12, to proudly display their years of service.

Years of service colors to wear

  • Up to 2 years of service: Green.
  • 3-5 years: Blue.
  • 6-10 years: Orange.
  • 11-15 years: Yellow.
  • 16+ years: Red.

Be sure to bask in the heartfelt appreciation from the city and our community. And thank you for your dedicated service.
