Aug. 31, 2023 — The National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood watch for the lower Chesapeake Bay, with Hurricane Idalia possibly bringing some flooding and gale-force winds to Hampton.

High tides in Hampton's coastal areas will come at about 10:30 tonight and 10:45 a.m. Friday, and some roads and yards in low-lying areas could become flooded.

The hurricane is expected to move into the Atlantic Ocean near Wilmington, N.C., but northeast winds will hit Hampton Roads this evening and tomorrow morning, with gusts up to 45 mph.

The Office of Emergency Management will continue to monitor the forecast and will provide updates as needed.
