Love the beach, but not the traffic and hassle of going through the tunnel to get there? Discover Buckroe Beach! Our incredible ¾-mile beach offers a panoramic view of the Atlantic Ocean as you look across the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. Sink your toes into our clean sandy beach, enjoy our sparkling water and gentle surf, and watch ocean-going ships coming into port. The season kicks off on Memorial Day and runs through Labor Day. The beach is open daily 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with lifeguards on staff during those hours. A playground and picnic shelters for families & groups are available separate from the beach.  

Watersports: No watersport rentals are currently being offered at Buckroe Beach.

  • The beach is closed during inclement weather.
  • No alcoholic beverages are permitted.
  • Swimming beyond the swim buoys is prohibited.
  • No plastic foam coolers are allowed.
  • No tents or portable gazebos are allowed.
  • Dogs and all other pets, except service animals, are prohibited in all areas of park and beach — including the green space, facilities, boardwalk, and beach — from May 15 to Sept. 15.
  • All dogs must be on a leash during allowed dates.
  • No personal watercraft, fishing, or scuba diving gear are permitted.
  • No open fires; this includes portable grills, fire pits, and hot oil cooking or deep frying.
  • Skateboards and bicycles are allowed on the bike path only.
  • No person shall ride or lead any horse or similar animal.
  • No littering is allowed.
  • No radio or remote-controlled vehicles, including drones, are allowed.
  • Feeding wildlife is prohibited.

The City of Hampton Parks, Recreation & Leisure Services Department seeks applications from food and merchandise vendors wishing to provide vending services at Buckroe Beach Park. This competitive application process is part of realizing the city’s mission to offer high quality, unique, and diverse conveniences to residents and visitors and to create a casual and inviting beachfront experience.
