    The ELEVATE program is designed to provide families with a safe, fun, and enriching environment for children while the parents are at work. Students in the program receive help with their homework and receive tutoring. They also participate in various recreational activities. The program also offers different enrichment activities. The program also partners with the Foodbank and allows our participants to receive a snack and dinner on a daily basis. For ages 6-12.

  2. A Taste of the Beautiful: African Impact on American Culture

    “A Taste for the Beautiful” showcases the works of numerous artists that have attended Hampton University, and have been influenced directly and indirectly by African culture. This show includes works by guest artists Kwabena Ampfo-Anti, Chinedu Okala, and Solomon Isekeije, who provide powerful visual statements that relate to HUMA’s African Gallery and Dr. William H. Shepherd’s extensive collection of Kuba artifacts. These artists work in a variety of styles and media; this show aims to provide them long overdue recognition.

  3. 2019 Virginia Artists Juried Exhibition

    This much anticipated, annual juried exhibition showcases the talents of many of Virginia’s finest artists and craftsmen. This exhibition features a $1,500 Best in Show prize; the David J. Levinson Photography Award for $1,000; the David and Sandra Hillerson Memorial Award for $500; as well as awards for First, Second, and Third Places and several awards of distinction in a variety of media. Artworks from all styles, genres, and media will be selected. This year, the Visual Arts Center is honored to welcome Jeffrey Allison, the Paul Mellon Collection educator at VMFA, as juror for the exhibition. Mr. Allison, also a professional photographer, received a BA in photography and film from Virginia Intermont College and an MFA in photography from VCU.

A Hampton resident born in Danville, Virginia, he began painting at the age of 15, has exhibited internationally, and has received countless awards.

  2. Winter Whimsy at the Hampton Carousel

    Make new holiday memories while enjoying festively adorned horses and the historic Hampton Carousel decked out for the season, along with special carousel organ-type Christmas music. Enjoy a free candy cane while enjoying a wintry spin back in time on this 1920s artistic marvel. Get your carousel fix before we close for the winter! The carousel will open for the season on April 1. Free admission. Rides $1. Hours 11 am to 8 pm, Tuesday through Saturday. Closed Mondays, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Operated by the Hampton History Museum, the Hampton Carousel is located in Carousel Park, 602 Settlers Landing Road in Downtown Hampton. There is free garage and on-street parking.     Bill Jenkins and the Virginia Mountain Boys bring to life the authentic music of the Southern Appalachians. This old time music is a reflection of the lives of the early immigrants and their descendants who eked out a meager living in the hills and hollows of those majestic mountains, heavily influenced by Scots-Irish and African rhythms, it later gave birth to early Bluegrass and to many early country songs which you will hear in this era-spanning show. Bill Jenkins & The Virginia Mountain Boys are: Bill Jenkins, Guitar and Vocals; Ken Worrell, Guitar and Vocals; Clyde Bailey, Banjo; Steve Hunley, Mandolin; and Joe Gilley, Bass Fiddle. Beer and wine will be available for purchase. Proceeds support the museum. The event is free for museum members, $5 for non-members. Doors open at 5:30 pm. Seating and capacity are limited and first-come, first-served.
