The Words on Wheels event in Phoebus on Sunday is a chance to exercise your body and your mind while visiting local small businesses. The event, sponsored by Bike Walk Hampton, will start at Sly Clyde Ciderworks at 2 p.m. Teams of participants will ride bikes (or walk) to different businesses and collect bags of letters, which they will then use to spell words on a Scrabble-style game board back at Sly Clyde. The event is free. Sly Clyde Ciderworks is located at 207 E. Mellen St.

Fox Hill Neighborhood Center and the Fox Hill Historical Society will be holding an open house event on June 26 from 2-6PM to honor watermen and share the many ways the families of Fox Hill have lived off the water for centuries. We will have photographs, paintings, model work boats and fishing gear on display. Experienced watermen and historians will talk about the various ways watermen have harvested seafood for hundreds of years. Our watermen will talk about: fish camps, oyster beds, crabbing and clamming, pound nets and pound boats, fishing with gill nets, waterfowl and building traditional boats. Delicious “waterman made” Fox Hill Clam Chowder, hush puppies and ice cream will be served.
