    Mercury Blvd Bridge

    North America’s oldest continuously-run hydroplane boat race is back this year! This is a free event that is open to the public. Our spectating areas are on the Mercury Blvd. bridge that leads to Fort Monroe and the grassy area on Stilwell Drive. Spectator boats are not allowed. We recommend bringing your own seating. Parking is available on surrounding public streets in Phoebus. There will be plenty of signage identifying “Boat Race Parking.”

    Join hosts Reginald Robinson and Judy Leonard for this year's stroll down memory lane of the premier seaside resort for African-Americans on the Chesapeake Bay during the Jim Crow Era. Your guides will entertain, educate and enlighten with stories, skits, sing-alongs, and heartfelt tributes to those who made Bayshore what it was, and those who keep the memories and spirit of this special place alive today. The special exhibit, "Historic Black Beaches: Bay Shore and Other Memorable Sands," on the museum's 2nd floor, continues through October 2, 2022.

    The Mary W. Jackson Neighborhood Center will open with a ribbon-cutting on Saturday, Sept. 17. The special opening day activities include tours, food and entertainment, and will run from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. The center, at 231 Lincoln St., features a gym, locker rooms, a fitness area, kitchen, small meeting rooms and a larger multi-purpose room. Outdoors, the park will contain a fenced basketball court, picnic area with shade structures, playground, an outdoor fireplace and gathering area and a multi-purpose field.
